A TripAdvisor™ TripWow slideshow of a travel blog to Trapani, Italy by TravelPod blogger Trishbullard titled "DAY 8- TRAPANI, SICILY" Trishbullard's travel blog entry: "I think Trapani was still asleep when we disembarked, as the town was sooo quiet! Mind you it was Sunday, so I suppose most of the townspeople were still in bed, before heading off to Sunday Mass later in the morning. We took a lovely stroll around the seaside before heading into town for the best café latte I've had since Paris! By lunchtime the town had awoken, and we stumbled onto a marketplace in the town square where lots of people were milling around, and various stalls displayed their handicrafts and wares. I bought a beautiful little hand-woven mat. Then some of the girls did a dance in their traditional costumes. We returned to the ship in the afternoon, but a highlight for us all was the send-off we received! It looked like half the town came out to farewell us!!! Huge numbers of people lined all along the port waving at the ship. Mind you, it must have looked an imposing sight, departing from the small harbour. Apparently the big cruise ships have only just started visiting Trapani -- largely because the water is so shallow. We were told there was only a foot of water between us and the sea bed, and we could see lots of mud being churned up as we left. So I imagine the Captain and First Officers were doing a bit of nail-biting!! But it was a great send off, and a highlight of the day." Read and ... |
