This is Shelly Hunt blogging to you again, on behalf of Ms. Hunt and Ms. Sale. Our first destination for today was to the medieval village within Erice. This village of about 250 people sits atop Mt. San Giuliano. The road leading to Erice is very narrow and winding (I tried to take a picture of it while in the bus, while fighting motion sickness!). We have a very talented bus driver that was able to navigate up the mountain with no center stripe and oncoming traffic! Our guide, Elena, took us on a guided walking tour of Erice, where the streets are made of cobble stones (laid over 200 years ago). What we did not anticipate that a cloud would be sitting the mountain the entire time we were there. Because the village is so high, clouds often hover over the town during the winter. If you've ever wondered what it was like to walk with your head in the clouds (literally), I'm here to tell you that it's cold, foggy, and windy. Maybe fun to play hide-and-seek in, but not fun when trying to keep a group of 22 curious American tourists together! :) Our fist stop was to the cathedral "Chiesa Madre."
